Energy Outreach Distributing $1.7 Million to Help with Heating Bills

DENVER – Coloradans struggling to keep up with bills may get some relief as Energy Outreach Colorado distributes $1.7 million this week in additional energy assistance.

Energy Outreach Colorado (EOC), the only non-profit in the state that raises funds for energy assistance, contributes funding to 131 emergency assistance sites across the state.
 
“Many of Colorado’s limited income families and seniors are overwhelmed by their heating bills this winter, particularly if they’ve experienced a job layoff or other difficulties,” said Skip Arnold, executive director of Energy Outreach Colorado. “Our state experienced its coldest December in years, and January temperatures were cold as well, so we’re anticipating many households experiencing higher energy bills than they can handle.”

Colorado has benefited this year from a nearly 50 percent increase in federal funding through the Colorado Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP), but households that don’t qualify through those guidelines or need additional assistance may still be able to receive help through EOC agencies.
