September 15, 2009

DENVEREnergy Outreach Colorado (EOC), a statewide non-profit that supports low-income energy assistance and efficiency programs, recently received the top rating from an independent charity evaluator for the eighth consecutive year.  Charity Navigator annually ranks the financial health of more than 5,000 charities in the country.  Of those, just one percent have received the coveted four-star rating for eight consecutive years.

In Colorado, EOC rates highest among the 142 nonprofit organizations rated by Charity Navigator.  EOC is also the sixth highest rated human services organization in the United States evaluated by Charity Navigator, and is the top-rated organization of its kind in the country.

“Energy Outreach Colorado consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way, and outperforms most other charities in America,” stated Charity Navigator in its award letter.  “This ‘exceptional’ designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Energy Outreach Colorado from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”

Energy Outreach Colorado has raised more than $115 million for energy assistance and energy efficiency programs since it was established in 1989.  Last year it distributed more than $11 million for energy assistance, $1 million for energy efficiency upgrades for affordable housing organizations, $1 million for weatherization services to Colorado non-profit facilities and $150,000 for education and outreach programs.

“We’re extremely proud of this honor and we greatly appreciate the more than 18,000 generous donors and 150 assistance and affordable housing agencies that work with us to help all Coloradans afford home energy,” said Skip Arnold, executive director of Energy Outreach Colorado.
