DENVER – Hundreds
of Denver-area residents concerned about high winter heating bills are
expected to attend a free Energy Assistance Expo to receive help filling
out energy assistance applications and learn the best ways to save
energy at home.
Who: Energy
Outreach Colorado, the Colorado Low-income Energy Assistance Program
(LEAP), Xcel Energy, the Governor’s Energy Office and Denver Human
Services will help participants correctly and completely fill out energy
assistance applications. This will help ensure that limited-income
households will remain warm, healthy and safe in their homes during the
coldest months of the year.
Participants planning to fill out applications should bring: proof of
income, valid photo ID, social security numbers for all household
members, a recent energy bill and rent receipt (if applicable.)
What: By attending the Energy Assistance Expo, reporters can:
- Speak to residents who are concerned about their heating bills
- Interview experts about the availability of energy assistance funding
- Obtain information about qualifying for energy assistance
- Obtain information about ways to save home energy
- Learn about the current cost of natural gas and the forecast through
winter
- Speak with agencies providing additional services including home
weatherization
When: Friday, Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Denver Human Services, 1st Floor
1200 Federal Blvd., Denver
Free parking available in the Denver Human Services parking lot or on
surrounding neighborhood streets.
Why: High energy costs are forcing some limited income households
to have to choose between paying their energy bill and being able to
afford food, medical care and other basic needs. More than 1 in 5
Colorado households qualifies for energy assistance under federal
guidelines, but not all of them apply for assistance or fill out their
applications correctly.
