DENVER –
As the weather outside becomes frightful, low-income families can take
heart with a bit of delightful news – Energy Outreach Colorado is ahead
of last year distributing energy assistance funding across the state.
As of this Monday, EOC has made energy assistance payments to 2,042
households totaling $715,445, with the average payment at $350. Last
year at this time, 1,974 households had received energy assistance
payments totaling $655,385, with the payment averaging $332.
“We’re working hard to make people aware of energy assistance and
distribute these funds efficiently through our partner agencies so that
families and seniors who need help don’t have to go through the holidays
worrying about paying their energy bills,” said Skip Arnold, executive
director of nonprofit Energy Outreach Colorado.
Energy Outreach Colorado is the only nonprofit in Colorado that raises
funds for energy assistance. It then provides grants to more than 100
emergency assistance agencies across the state that work with needy
families. Energy assistance funds are credited directly to recipients’
utility accounts.
“We’re always looking for more ways to meet the growing need for energy
assistance and our other programs – increasing the energy efficiency of
affordable housing developments and educating limited income families
about energy conservation,” Arnold said.
