Energy Outreach Colorado Named to Charity Navigator Hall of Fame

November 14, 2006

DENVER – Energy Outreach Colorado, a statewide non-profit organization that raises funds for energy assistance and energy efficiency upgrades for affordable housing, is one of just 10 charities across the United States to be named to the Charity Hall of Fame compiled by Charity Navigator.

Charity Navigator is an independent charity evaluator that annually ranks the financial health of more than 5,000 charities in the country. It released its Charity Hall of Fame this week as part of its 2006 Holiday Giving Guide. Energy Outreach Colorado also is Charity Navigator’s highest rated social services organization, and has received the organization’s top 4-star rating for five consecutive years.

“Donors who choose to give to Energy Outreach Colorado are already giving with their heart,” said Trent Stamp, Charity Navigator’s president. “Our inclusion of this charity in our Hall of Fame list assures donors that their generous contributions are going to a well-managed charity. We applaud Energy Outreach Colorado’s consistently exceptional financial efficiency.”

“These 10 exceptional charities represent the best of the best and thus qualify for Charity Navigator’s Charity Hall of Fame,” the website states. “With a history of respecting donors and exhibiting strong fiscal management, these charities are a good investment for those donors who crave peace of mind this holiday season.”

Energy Outreach Colorado has raised more than $100 million since it was created by state legislation in 1989 to supplement federal funding for energy assistance. For the 2006-07 heating season, it plans to distribute $6.15 million for energy assistance and $600,000 for energy efficiency upgrades for affordable housing projects. The organization was instrumental in the passage of Colorado’s Low-Income Energy Assistance Program which went into effect this fall, requiring all energy companies in the state to launch programs to raise funds for energy assistance. “We’re extremely gratified for this honor, for the dedicated donors and assistance agencies that support our efforts, and for the opportunity to raise awareness about the critical need for energy assistance,” said Skip Arnold, executive director of Energy Outreach Colorado. “This year, in particular, will be difficult for income-limited families and seniors because public funding for energy assistance has been cut dramatically from last year’s record levels.”
