operating budgets can go toward helping
clients – many of whom also receive assistance from Energy Outreach
Colorado.
NEEP began as a pilot through a partnership between Energy Outreach
Colorado, the Denver Foundation, Xcel Energy Foundation, the Daniels
Fund, Mile High United Way and the Governor’s Office of Energy
Management and Conservation. It successfully increased the energy
efficiency of facilities run by Gateway Battered Women’s Shelter,
SafeHouse Denver, Urban Peak, Volunteers of America and Family Tree.
These organizations typically serve men, women and children on the brink
of homelessness, individuals who are coming out of domestic violence
situations and individuals with mental illness. Some have multiple
facilities that benefited from energy audits and efficiency
improvements.
In 2007, EOC joined forces with the Denver
Office of Strategic Partnerships to target non-profits in the City and
County of Denver for NEEP. Focusing on 24-hour shelters and transitional
housing, NEEP increased the energy efficiency of facilities operated by:
Sobriety House, Savio House, The Delores Project, Mile High Ministries,
Karis Community, St. Francis Center and Third Way Center.
