Legislation passed in 2005 to increase funding for energy assistance in Colorado went into effect on September 1, 2006, with the more than 60 energy utilities operating in the state launching a variety of new initiatives. The new law requires that utility companies offer programs to provide their customers the opportunity to donate to energy assistance.
