Energy Outreach provides summer home safety net for low-income seniors and families

Summer’s sizzling temperatures are life threatening for Coloradan's who can’t afford energy for their homes. Energy Outreach Colorado provides bill payment assistance year-round so low-income seniors and families don’t have to go without necessities like refrigeration and cooling.

Mark – a Denver diabetic who is disabled and can’t work – sought help when he received a disconnect notice from his energy provider. He was at risk of losing refrigeration for his insulin and evaporative cooling.

“I survive on Medicare and food stamps,” he said. “I’ve owned the same house for 27 years but it came down to keeping my truck and living in it or selling the house, so I sold my truck. I’ve been riding my bike for years.”

For Mark and other low-income Coloradans who can’t afford to pay for electricity, energy bill assistance is a very real safety net. For information about summer energy bill payment assistance, call toll-free 1-866-heat-help or go to http://www.energyoutreach.org/get-help/paying-your-energy-bill
