Energy Outreach Colorado provides safety net for family in crisis

Overnight, Adriana became the sole provider for her 11-year-old daughter after making the heart-wrenching choice to part ways with a partner who couldn’t fight his addictions. Your gifts helped her stay the course.

“The lost income – and addictions – left me with all the expenses and I got a little over my head,” said Adriana, an assistant manager at a medical office.  “I had to keep a roof over our heads and make the car payment, so our energy bill had to take a back burner.”

After receiving a disconnect notice from her energy company, Adriana found help through a local assistance agency that partners with Energy Outreach Colorado. Receiving energy bill payment assistance was “quite a blessing,” she said.

“It took the biggest weight off of my shoulders,” she added. “I no longer have the stress of wondering if we are going to walk in the door one day and not have light.”

Adriana looks forward to moving into a smaller and less expensive apartment once the lease on her townhome is up, and hopes to one day save enough money to buy a home.

“I’ve been renting for 10 years and I hope and dream for someplace to call my own,” she said. She also hopes to support her daughter in her dream to become an Olympic gymnast. “Kids should be allowed to be kids and not worry about bills,” she added. “I don’t want to give up on that for her.”
