Energy Outreach Colorado provides warm welcome to family without heat

A limited-income Aurora family with two young girls is “nice and warm” in their home after their broken furnace was replaced through a program managed by Energy Outreach Colorado.

Selamayele Ayele, who moved to Colorado with her family from Egypt, recently contacted EOC because she and her father and children were living without heat in the cold weather and couldn’t afford to fix their electric heating system. Soon after, a contractor in EOC’s network installed a new furnace in their home, paid for through Colorado’s federally–funded Crisis Intervention Program.

As an extra step, Energy Outreach project manager Rich Duston noticed that the Ayeles’ electric bill was still unusually high after the new furnace was installed – more than $300 for the month. He worked with the Colorado Energy Office’s Weatherization Assistance Program in Arapahoe County, which weatherized their home to lower energy costs.

“I thank you for the work that was done and I appreciate all that you did for us,” Selamayele said. “Now our house is nice and warm.”
