EOC Oversees Littleton
Housing Apartment Upgrade |

Funding from Xcel Energy’s energy efficiency program, administered by
Energy Outreach Colorado, has made it possible to lower costs and energy
usage for residents of the 69-unit Powers Circle Apartments in
Littleton.
The three-building affordable housing complex, built in the 1960s, was
purchased by Littleton Housing Authority in 2008. The $235,500 Xcel
Energy grant, part of the Multi-Family Weatherization program, paid for
six new high-efficiency boilers and 252 new Energy-Star rated windows.
“We are very, very pleased and thankful to EOC and Xcel Energy for
making this project a reality,” said Lori Greenwell, housing development
specialist with Littleton Housing Authority. “Our residents really
appreciate the improvements and are happy with the increased quiet and
energy efficiency of their homes. We anticipate a considerable reduction
in their energy usage.”
GDS Heating of Englewood installed the on-demand, hot water heating
system. Each of the three apartment buildings now has two small boiler
units that hang on the wall, replacing the three 2,900-pound boilers
that were cut into pieces for removal and recycled.
In addition, Mile High Youth Corps was funded by the Xcel Energy energy
efficiency program to install high-efficiency showerheads, sink aerators
and compact fluorescent light bulbs in the apartments. Denver Water paid
for the addition of low-flow toilets. |
